Configuring DNS Records

When working with Rep.co there are two places that you will find yourself needing to configure DNS records:

1. White Labeling the platform

2. Sending review requests from custom emailing domains.

Platform White Labeling

The first place you might find yourself needing to set DNS records is at the platform level. You'll want to create a 'Brand' by heading over to the Brands setting tab and clicking 'Add Brand':

Then you'll enter your company name, the sub domain you want your clients to access the platform via and the sending name you want your customers to see as they get system emails from your white label instance (think new user welcome email, password reset, etc).

Next you'll need to set a single CNAME DNS record. You'll be setting this record with your DNS controller which might be Cloudflare, your registrar or an instance of CPanel. Please refer to your hosts 'How to set a CNAME record' help documentation for specific instructions or reach out directly to us if you are having a hard time.

In Cloudflare you'll want to click on the "DNS" tab of your domain and add the record. Select 'CNAME' from the drop down of record types and then enter your sub domain as the 'Name' and 'whitelabel.rep.co' as the target. Uncheck the 'proxy' traffic button and click enter:

You should see the record in your list of records below:

Once Rep.co detects that your records have been set properly you will be able to select this Brand as you create businesses and they will interact with Rep.co via your white label instance.

Review Request White Labeling

Not only can Rep.co be white labeled from the platform perspective, but each business you set up can have custom email domains to send review email requests through branded properties.

To get started, click into any of your Rep.co businesses and select the 'Brand' tab on the bottom left:

Scroll down to the sending domain section and enter an email you would like to send review requests from. The system will automatically append a 'reviews' sub domain that will be transparent to the user but provide a layer of protection for the sending reputation of your domain:

We will enter '[email protected]' and click 'Add Email' and the system will give us all of the DNS instructions necessary for configuring our custom email domain:

You'll be adding SIX records in total for this configuration.

First let's start with the CNAME record with the name of 'email.reviews.trafficrunners.com' (yours will be unique to your domain) and the value mailgun.org:

Next we'll add the SPF TXT record:

The DKIM record will go next:

DMARC TXT record:

And then last you will add the two MX records:

Once you have added the records, depending on where your DNS is controlled at, you may need to wait 12-24 hours for successful configuration.
